Project overview

The subject and the background are close in value, so the shoulder line disappears. Adding a rim light that was never shot is the obvious answer and the wrong one — it would not match the key already on the face.

Transformation details

The separation was built with dodge and burn along the existing highlight, extending what the key light was already doing rather than inventing a second source.
The background was darkened away from the body edge, which does half the work with none of the risk.
Skin was evened with frequency separation, with the warm specular on the shoulder kept intact.
The hair volume was cleaned at the outline without thinning it.
