Project overview

The chair in the capture is the wrong shape and the wrong material for the concept, and it is directly under the subject — so it cannot simply be covered. The pose, though, is exactly right.

Transformation details

  • The throne was constructed around the existing seated posture so the arms and the back stay where they were photographed.

  • The cavern was built with its brightest area behind the subject's head, which is what gives the figure separation without a rim light that was never shot.

  • Two animals were placed at the base at matching scale and given the same cool key.

  • The grade takes the frame cold while holding a warm point in the skin, so the subject does not disappear into the ice.
