Project overview

The original is a supported pose: the chair holding the body up is in frame, along with a light stand and the studio wall. The illusion the concept needs is exactly the thing the capture cannot hide.

Transformation details

The support was removed and the body's edge rebuilt where the chair had been overlapping it, which is the whole job — a floating figure is only believable if nothing is touching it.
Fabric was built to carry the weight in the places the chair had been carrying it, so the pose still reads as supported by something.
Balloons were added above with the strings following the sling's actual tension line.
The frame was taken high-key so the figure has nowhere to cast a floor shadow, which is what completes the lift.
