Project overview

The background is a working studio — shelving, a doorway, a cluttered right edge. Two subjects are lying on the floor, so the new environment has to have a believable floor as well as a believable distance.

Transformation details

A sea bed was built at the pose's own floor level so neither figure moves.
The water column was placed above with light shafts all coming from one surface point, which is what makes underwater light read as light rather than as texture.
A cool grade was applied with the skin protected, then a gentle blue falloff added toward the frame edges for depth.
Bubbles were added sparingly and only in the upper third — an even scatter across the frame reads as noise.
